the bulletin boards in the lobby for late minute schedules. There
are also impromptu activities like catered dinners, and social events that

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT LUQUILLO
PUERTO RICO: Location
and climate: The town of Luquillo is on the northeast coast of
the island a
short 35-55 minutes drive east of the San Juan Airport. See map of driving
directions. This town is famous for its
public beach which is a short walk away from the Condos. Walk west keeping
the beach on your right side along the shore for about 10-15
minutes till you find "El Balneario de Luquillo". A huge
plantation of majestic coconut palms shades more than a mile of sandy golden beach. This public beach has all
the facilities including life guards, showers, dressing and rest rooms and
plenty of parking. Here you will also find 'Los Kioskos de Luquillo'
and a
wide variety of succulent sea food and Creole food and the best
Puerto Rico Coffee in the
world. Luquillo is
proud to have the only beach in the world with access
for people with disabilities called "Mar sin
Barreras". Puerto Rico enjoys year-round warmth though
cooler in the winter with an average annual 77ºF. Dependable easterly
trade winds keep the Luquillo area comfortable with sunny skies most of the
time, and cooler temperatures especially at night when you might need a
light jacket to go out and you might have to TURN OFF the A/Cs and close
all the windows. Dress casual, travel light.
In
Luquillo you will find plenty to do during your stay here. This
beach town is in the center of the many activities like beach festivals,
surfing competitions, the annual
"Festival de Platos Tipicos" where you can sample the many cooking
recipes of Puerto Rico, floorshows and
nightlife that take place in the
lounges and casinos of the Wyndham El Conquistador and the Westin RioMar
Resorts, both with 18 hole championship golf courses. There are
several must visit places nearby; 'El Centro de Bellas Artes de Luquillo' with a museum of local
'artesanos' presents theater and musical
events. We are sure you will enjoy a day visit to the El Yunque
National Rain Forest where the views and nature trails will mesmerize you with the
splendor of exquisite natural foliage. Make sure you take the trail
to the Coca waterfall and wear shorts or a swim trunk so that you can take
a plunge in the cool pristine water pond where the river downstream is
born; you will never forget this one. The El Faro Lighthouse Museum and adjacent Las Cabezas
de San Juan Nature Reserve (bioluminescent mangrove lagoon) and the above
water boardwalk and nature trail walk are found a short 15 minutes drive
on the scenic road that leads to Las Croabas in the neighboring town of
Fajardo where you can take day trips by Ferry to
Vieques and Culebra. At the foot of this
same road you will find local fishermen selling their catch of the day and
some are for hire and will take you out on day excursions to the many
little isolated islands including Palomino Island, Cayo Icacos and
others. Are you up to competing in Blue Marlin fishing? Here you
will find marinas where you can book a one day trip and go out with the
locals to the best areas for your prize winner Blue Marlin. If you
like Thoroughbred horse racing you will find Hipodromo el Comandante on
Highway 3 in the town of Canovanas.

moving or relocating to reside or retire in Puerto Rico as newcomers.
Driving around and getting around Luquillo without a car could be
difficult: It's highly recommended
that you avail yourself of a rental car at the Airport. Although the
easiest way to get here is taking a taxi at the taxi stand in the airport
but you will need a car to get around and visit other areas and the rest
of the island. GOLF: FAJARDO - El Conquistador

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:00am until the sun goes down; Saturday and
Sunday 7:00am until sun goes down HORSEBACK RIDING:Haciendas
Paso Fino. TRANSPORTATION: Direct non stop flights are available into San Juan
International from all major US airports. You will find all the major car
rental agencies as well as local competitive agencies that are priced
cheaper. There are also Taxicabs and Public cars (publicos) which you can
charter at a pre-agreed fare. GENERAL: Puerto Rico, U.S.A. A tropical paradise
in the Caribbean only 3 1/2 hours from
NY-Newark airports and yet very similar to the mainland. No need for passports
because this is American territory protected by the same U.S. Constitution. No need
for costly tourist cards and no immigration lines and no customs inspections,
except on your return to the mainland your luggage will be inspected by the U.S.
Dept of Agriculture for unauthorized fruits. You won't have to pay an exit
tax. No need for money exchange; we use the same monetary and banking
systems, the same US Postal system, the same US Federal Courts and agencies and
US Armed Forces.
Very important: You might find
life in Puerto Rico somewhat different than in other Latin countries.
We encourage you to be prepared and open minded to experience a
special kind of people and their everyday life. A good example of
this is the festive as well as the fanatical politics that seem so
prevalent in the island. It feels like we have a parade for just
about every imaginable occasion. All of the sudden you find yourself
immersed in the deafening blaring of police, fire trucks, ambulances, tow
trucks, cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles and yes even tricycles
equipped with sirens and air horns and emergency lights and pick up trucks
equipped with sound blasting speakers transporting beauty pageants,
political figures, religious leaders, sports figures, and the worse of all
the new reggaeton culture. Please I beg you to understand that this
new and imported music of REGGAETON is by no means native of Puerto Rico.
The music of Puerto Rico can't be compared with this noise. This is
nothing more than a detraction from the norm and imported from the GHETTOS
of the mainland combined with the rhythm of Afro-Caribbean and it gives a
sour taste of the good music and way of life in Puerto Rico. We are
very proud of our heritage and culture and hope that you benefit from that
experience and respect our freedoms and way of life.
